Abstract

Jassid infested stem and leaves in sunflower during all seasons of each year from 2001-2003. However its was abundant during kharif season than rabi season or zaid season. Its population in kharif season its population varied from 2.3-20.0, from 2-19.2 and from 2.4-18.4 per plant during 2001, 2002 and 2003 respectively. Its population in zaid 3.5-12.2 per plant during 2001, 2002 and 2003 respectively. However, abundance in rabi season was more than that of kharif season in each year. Jassid sucked cell sap from stem and leaves it caused browing and crickling of leaves. The seeds obtained from jassid infested plants contained bitter.

During the kharif season the population of jassid was not found to be significantly co-related to temperature and relative humidity but in 2001 it was found to be significantly correlated to rainfall; the population increase in rainfall during 2001. Like whitefly and dusky cotton bug the jassid was also assessed to be the major pests.
