PULSE OXYMETERS: MEDICAL INSTRUMENT USED FOR CONTINUOUSLY MONITORING THE BLOOD OXYGEN SATURATION USING NON-INVASIVE METHOD

Abstract

In the medical field it has become necessary to continuously monitor the patient’s health using all available instruments. One of the most widely used and easily available instruments is pulse oxymeter. It is widely used for continuously monitoring the blood oxygen saturation using non-invasive method. Oxygen is carried by hemoglobin present in the blood which is circulated throughout the body with every pulse of the heartbeat. There are millions of hemoglobin molecules present in the red blood cells which contribute to the distribution of oxygen to various organs and tissues. Hemoglobin molecule can be oxygenated or reduced.
