Abstract

Mumbai is the sixth largest metropolitan region in the globe and the largest city in India which comes under seismic zone III. In this paper the multistory residential building (G+10) has been considered for design, which is under the influence of moderate earthquake. Geometry of the structure is symmetrical and hence, design is simple. Analysis is done for total 17 load combinations using finite element software, STAAD PRO. Both, seismic and wind load has been considered for the design and analysis of this building (G+10).The seismic load is calculated under the provision of IS 1893 (part 1): 2002. The design is done for worst load combination, which is 1.2 (DL+LL+SL). Factored load combinations are used to find the size of the members of superstructure and un-factored load combinations are used for the size of the isolated footing. Design of structure has been done manually using the software analysis results. For the design: IS 456:2000 & SP 16 [7] and for detailing: SP 34 [12], has been referred. The deflection is in accordance with IS 456: 2000, which is within 20mm and the structure is safe.
