Abstract

The use of admixtures in concrete has drastically increased in recent years because of the many advantages they possess. Understanding and quantifying effects of superplasticizers in concrete is a complex task. Superplasticizer improves fluidity of concrete by dispersing cement particles in paste. Highperformance concrete that includes the high-strength concrete and the highfluidity concrete can be produced with superplasticizer.  An exhaustive literature survey has been carried out looking into the advantages of polycarboxylate acid based superplasticizer, so as to study its uses and effect on various properties of concrete. Superplasticizers have been employed as concrete admixtures. In developing countries, structures damaged due to extreme loading conditions such as earthquakes, or deteriorated due to aging, needs to be frequently repaired instead of replacement for economic reasons. In this research, the overall effectiveness of Perma Plast PC-401 on the mechanical properties of concrete was studied through laboratory testing. Also the results were compared with those of concrete made by mixing boiling water. Both these batches were compared to find the ideal solution for concreting in hot climates where sufficient water is not available for curing.
