ISO 14001- ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR AUTOMOTIVE SMALL SCALE INDUSTRY

Abstract

At present situation of the liberation of trade and commerce in the wake of globalization, and the automotive small-scale industries are needs to be design, quality and effectively acquire excellent export quality for tiding over payment difficulties and for competing in the domestic markets too with the imported goods.

But the present industrial policy , it is said that our automotive small scale industries have still been handicapped by factors like non-accessibility of reliable information, inadequacy of institutional finance and most important to outdated technology and not yet implementing of Clean technology Standard (ISO 14001) for the control of environmental pollution.

The rapid growth in recent times has resulted in significance increase in environmental pollution in most of the Indian cities/town by the help of small-scale industries. While promoting our economic growth, we must strike a balance with environmental harmony. This should be done before the environment damage begins.

Clean technology standard as EMSs- ISO 14001, similar in its structure to ISO 9001 quality standard. The 17 area, addressed in International Standard of Organization-ISO 14001, includes establishing environmental policy, training workers whose job makes a significant impact on the environment, making employee aware of their responsibilities, keeping documentation, demonstrating emergency environmental accidents preparedness as well as monitoring and measuring key characteristics of operations and activities. Internal audit are required by ISO 14001 and third party assessment is needed for certification to ISO 14001 on a plant-by-plant basis.

ISO 14001 is a simple but very powerful. Tin O’Brien said, “ISO 14001 nothing prohibits vs. from doing it other than not paying attention.

Now a day, the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt. of India, New Delhi, has approved a scheme on adoption of clean technology to the small-scale industries.
