Abstract

Ngugi Wa Thiong’o was born on 5th January 1938 at Kamiriithu, Kenya Colony. He was a well-known international writer who had spent nearly twenty two years in exile. He started his career as a writer and soon emerged as one of the prolific Kenyan writers. He showed his writing skill in various genres. He appeared as short story writer, playwright, Novelist and essayist. At the beginning of his literary career, he used English language to express his notions. Later he shifted to his own language Gikuyu. Most of his literary works translated into many languages especially thirty languages. A Grain of Wheat brought him fame as famous African writer among the readers. In this novel, the author clearly depicted the sufferings of Kenyans in their country. It revealed the characters longingness to get freedom and how they alienated from others. This research article identified colonialism, Post colonialism and alienation. Alienation was the important part in this article.
